Being a church of around 400 people can mean it is difficult to find how one belongs. You can attend on a Sunday morning, but belonging is far more than just attending. To really belong you need to understand how TBC works, and be part of the vision and culture of the place. Our vision is summed up in our mission statement on the front wall of the auditorium.
Our Mission is to be a transforming community committed to Jesus Christ
Each word in the statement is significant. “Jesus Christ” is the reason we are here, and the one we follow. “Committed” speaks of more than just a verbal acknowledgement of faith. It is a faith that is expressed in action. “Community” talks of the kind of people and place we want to be. Our vision is not of individuals who follow Jesus but of being a team where everyone is valued and everyone contributes. “Transforming” sums up our focus to be outward. We believe we are here to serve people outside the church community and be a blessing to the city in which God has placed us. We want to see those who do not know Jesus come to faith. We want to demonstrate in very practical ways the love of Christ, especially where there is pain and brokenness. We believe we are to be part of this mission of transformation both locally and overseas. Constitution We have a constitution that governs how we do things and this, along with policies on different matters is available from the office Help Desk. Audited financial accounts can also be requested. Being Baptist As a Baptist church we belong to the Baptist Union of NZ. The Union provides advice, assistance and training to churches. It also provides a great network to support and encourage. However we are free to make our own decisions on our vision and direction.
